On 17 October 2022, Bob Chan - who is originally from Hong Kong - was dragged into the grounds of the Chinese Consulate in Manchester and beaten during a pro-democracy protest. PalTV originally set out to cover a solidarity protest in Durham's Market Square and spoke to its organisers. However, after our reporters reached out to the consulate for comment, we received an odd response that questioned the accuracy of the media coverage surrounding the event. And so, the PalTV Investigation team conducted a visual investigation of footage captured in Manchester to discern: What really happened?
